It's been almost a year since I released The Princess and the Kitten (a fairy tale retelling of Soot's adoption) and over a year since I released The Spina Bifida Potty Book (a book for young children with spina bifida who catheterize and need a bowel program).
I've gotten great feedback from families who were helped by the Spina Bifida Potty Book, so I decided to write another book inspired by my daughter and the other kids who are living and thriving with spina bifida.
In I Have Spina Bifida a little girl, her family, and her diverse friends with spina bifida cover the basics of living with spina bifida. This book is geared towards young children living with spina bifida and aims to educate them about their condition and normalize their conditions. It is whimsically illustrated and uses simple language to address life with a complex medical condition.
My daughter loved reading through this book with me, and it helps her to know that there are other children and adults living with spina bifida just like her (and Soot!). I hope that it is helpful for other families in the same situation!
